McMurdo Personal Locator Beacons

Signature Industries Limited UK, a subsidiary of US based Digital Angel Corporation, has announced that it has completed the purchase of Chemring Group PLC’s subsidiary, McMurdo Marine Electronics, based in Portsmouth, UK. Completion was conditional upon the transfer of certain product Approvals which are now in place.

Signature’s SARBE division and McMurdo have combined to form the world’s largest supplier of satellite communication survival radios for the military, civil aviation, maritime and recreational markets. Both companies have a long history of supplying safety critical survival radio products. SARBE is the world leader in the military survival radio sector and McMurdo hold a similar position in the maritime sector.

With impending changes to the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite monitoring system, all of the analogue 121.5MHz equipment currently in service will require replacement by February 2009, when the system will be switched to 406MHz digital.
