SARBE WINS CONTRACT TO DEVELOP AND SUPPLY A NEW SUBMARINE BEACON FOR THE ROYAL NETHERLANDS NAVY

Signature Industries is delighted to announce that its SARBE division is part of the team that has won a prestigious contract to develop and supply an innovative new crew escape system for submarines of the Royal Netherlands Navy.

The joint venture designated Integrated Submarine Escape Capability (ISEC), offers operators a one-stop-shop which effectively meets personnel escape requirements from both submerged vessels or during surface abandonment emergencies.

Working with RFD Beaufort, the world leader in Submarine Escape Equipment, as well as Weir Strachan and Henshaw, who are a design authority for submarine launch weapons and supply weapons, counter-measures plus submarine launch systems, SARBE has been selected to develop as well as supply an automatically activated and deployed emergency radio which will alert rescue authorities and pinpoint the precise location of a stricken submarine which might be submerged or on the surface.

The Royal Netherlands Navy has selected the Submarine Liferaft and Deployment System which is a unique system allowing the launch of a 35-man liferaft when the submarine is either on the surface or deep dive depth. Once inflated, the new SARBE beacon is automatically activated and will make distress transmissions for up to 10 days.

The Walrus class vessels will be first submarines to be fitted with this equipment. Furthermore, SARBE are also pursuing opportunities to supply beacons to be fitted to Scorpene submarines that have been ordered by the Navy’s of Malaysia, India and Chile.
