SIGNATURE INDUSTRIES HAS INTRODUCED A NEW 406MHZ EMERGENCY LOCATION MARKER

The latest product from Signature Industries’ SARBE division is the BE369/406 ADELM (Aerial Deployed Emergency Location Marker) operating on 406MHz.

The BE 369//406 is a flotation beacon intended to be deployed from an aircraft or helicopter at the scene of an emergency incident. The ADELM is a development of the BE369 which is used extensively in survival packs carried by helicopters and in emergency exit escape chutes and life rafts onboard wide-body jets.

The ADELM can be deployed, along with other survival equipment, at the scene of an incident by a fixed wing aircraft or helicopter and will drift with survivors until rescue units can reach the scene. The unit can also be carried in, or adjacent to the doors of aircraft for deployment by cabin crew prior to evacuation.

When activated the BE369/406 ADELM transmits a message to the COSPAS-SARSAT global satellite system giving a virtually instantaneous over-the-horizon alert of an emergency. The transmitted message allows rescue authorities to identify the area of the incident and the aircraft involved.

In addition to the 406MHz signal, the international aviation and maritime ‘swept tone’ distress signal is transmitted on 121.5MHz and 243MHz. This allows final homing by surface and aircraft Search and Rescue vessels.

Fully approved by COSPAS-SARSAT on Type Approval Certificate 142 as a Class 2 EPIRB, the BE369/406 is waterproof to a depth of 10M and has an endurance time in excess of 24hours at –20oC.

Existing operators of all versions of BE369 beacons may wish to take advantage of the 406MHz upgrade programme. Under the terms of a planned programme, units can be returned to Signature Industries Ltd to be upgraded to BE369/406 ADELM specification. This allows operators to benefit from lower costs as many key components are reused during the upgrade programme.
